1.1.4 Why am I getting a "page cannot be found" error message when I try to view my web site?

There are only a few reasons why someone may not be able to view a web site even though it is running perfectly and viewable from other areas of the world. Most of the time this occurs when a temporary outage (rebooting of servers, regional down time of main Internet Service Providers equipment, etc.) causes a single user in your area to get an initial error page. The local Internet Service Provider (ISP) then caches the error page results (a common practice by many ISP to reduce the amount of repetitive traffic) into it's system and from then on local users on that system will continue to get the cached page version of your web site until the Time To Live (TTL) expires for that cached service. Normally TTL values are set close to fifteen (15) minutes by default but there have been reports of some services (AOL for one) that have them set at four (4) hours.

Occasionally you may receive a phone call or email from someone who is unable to get to your web site and yet you can browse to it online with no problem. This is the reason this type of thing occurs. Since the other ISPs are third party services there is little anyone can do to resolve the issue other than wait for the TTL to be reached and then web site path will again be reachable.
